Bill Berkson

Spring, 1959

A line from a poem I wrote while taking Kenneth Koch's poetry workshop at the New School for Social Research, spring 1959:

“Your legs like ice cream cones cross and cross again.”

Years later, it is the pleasure Kenneth took in finding this line that prompts me to remember it, or more precisely, to remember Kenneth saying it aloud back to me and his excitement, which was itself then a new conception of poetry.
