      Graca Capinha: a comet

(after Tom Raworth)

stroking the ochre fur of bees
in the shadow of an echo
the hills of Douro dive
in the cloisters of Coimbra and we
recover the illuminated darkness
     medieval
your voice split amongst
fragments of stone
the vocabulary geometry of
                                                    a body
languages afire
walking around the corners of
            a poem-stone
trying to reach the end of darkness
the patterns in the sky.                      a comet
