The spokesman had a deep voice;
was discrete. Had a clear notion of
what benefitted ‘the people’ best.
The same opinion resounded in unison
from pulpit and press, in song
and dance ... No one
seemed of a different mind, no one
heard a different song, no one observed
from a different point.
But, as always, as
everywhere, and yet
as never before,
the air trembled with murmurs,
a sort of hum,
and a heat, which rose up, up ...
